    1. I read through this book with my son. It is written from a reformed standpoint (this is specifically stated in the opening "note to parents" section). Most of that standpoint I am very thankful for and glad for my son to hear. Very clearly specific points of theology are taught in most stories. Often story license is taken but in appropriate ways. However, at times I wondered if my son would be able to pick out the fact that not all the characters or storyline is actually in the bible. On a few [...]

    2. With the abundance of children's Bibles and Bible story books, many of these books focus on the stories as wise lessons in morality. A few highlight the overarching theme of redemption in Scripture. But even fewer books focus on what each of these stories teach about the author of the book, God himself. In Mighty Acts of God, Starr Meade attempts to take well known stories of the Bible and emphasize what each one teaches us about an attribute or characteristic of God.Each story is roughly three, [...]

    3. Own.Probably should be 3.5 stars. We read this story Bible for family devotions. The stories were well selected and gathered. They were written at a level the children could understand without talking down to them. Sometimes liberty was taken with the way the story was presented - told from the point of view of the boy who was healed or introducing Paul's thoughts when approaching Mars Hill or in his Roman prison. These were helpful to consider the familiar stories from a different perspective, b [...]

    4. Some time ago I wrote about our parental duties according to Psalm 78. (pastoralmusings/2008/08/07) The Mighty Acts of God is a devotional for children that is based on this passage.Psalm 78 gives us a charge to teach our children in the ways of God, to train them to trust and obey the Lord, and to do so by teaching them of the mighty works that God has done. This book focuses on these mighty works of God so as to teach children the history of God's great works in the lives of men and women. By [...]

    6. I'm reading this to all three kids a few times a week now. It's excellent as a resource, just not a hit with us right now. I feel obligated to use it since I purchased it, but I think all three would rather just have me read straight from the Bible, so we'll see how long I stick with this This Bible story book is definitely superior to many others I've seen (and used!)
