    1. Mike Crowl Cherianne Parks

The third children s book in the Grimhilderness series The Disenchanted Wizard is finally at the finish line After many upheavals, with the second half has been rewritten at least three times, it s now available as an ebook on Kindle, Kobo, iTunes and all the other retailers The Disenchanted Wizard , while being part of the Grimhilderness series, doesn t have any obvious links to the previous two books Its connection to them, however, will come to light in the fourth bookwhich I m only just beginning to write.I ve been writing for most of my life I began publishing on a casual basis back in the 1990s with various magazines and newspapers, and soon was writing a weekly column for a local newspaper This column survived for five years, until one day I wrote something that apparently offended the new editor At that point I received a letter this was back in snail mail days in which I was summarily dismissed from the job In 2012 along with a friend I wrote the script for a family musical called Grimhilda , as well as composing the music This was presented in the Mayfair Theatre in Dunedin, New Zealand, the city where I ve mostly lived since 1948 This production was successful in terms of audience enjoyment if not quite so much in terms of financial rewards Subsequently I decided to turn the musical s script into a book this was published as an ebook under the title Grimhilda a fantasy for children and their parents, in January 2014 A few months later I completed a non fiction title, one that I d considered writing for some time This related to my not so happy experiences after undergoing a prostate biopsy It s called Diary of a Prostate Wimp Finally in 2014 I finished a sequel to Grimhilda , The Mumbersons and The Blood Secret This was published on the 8th November, 2014.

    1. I found The Mumbersons and the Blood Secret, by Mike Crowl and Cherianne Parks, to be a most delightful story. Billy Mumberson, and his friend, Olivia, risk life and limb to uncover a long kept secret at the factory where his father is employed. The children have in common parents who are preoccupied and spare them little attention or affection. Billy’s life is particularly confusing since the departure of his mother, nearly a year before. His father is grumpy, becoming even more so after the [...]

    2. The Mumbersons and the Blood Secret, by Mike Crowl, was a great read. It has you hooked very early on and the pace just gets more intense, which is great for the age group that it’s targeted toward. A great mix of magic and real-life relatability, with a healthy dose of mystery thrown in. I think anyone who enjoyed Under the Mountain, by Maurice Gee, will definitely enjoy The Mumbersons and the Blood Secret as well.

    3. I got a free review copy from the author and though this book is definitely not my favourite genre, I genuinely enjoyed reading it.It's definitely a well-written book. I really started getting into the plot and the characters after a few chapters and then didn't want to put the book down: the second part is very fast-paced, so it'll definitely make for a good children's book that parents can also enjoy.

    4. A fast-paced story with charming, memorable characters and a good dose of humour throughout. An excellent read-aloud choice for 7-11 years. They are sure to giggle at the crazy descriptions and the grown-up who refuses to believe in magic even when it's right under his nose! There's always some action going on, so will keep the reader hooked as well.

    5. I really enjoyed the Hardy Boys-type first half of the story, which focused on the mystery. But the evil characters were a little too nasty and there were some loose ends tied up a little too conveniently and magically, maybe unnecessarily.

    6. Reviewed by Michelle Stanley for Readers' FavoriteThe Mumbersons and the Blood Secret (Grimhilderness Book 2) is a children’s fantasy by Mike Crowl and Cherianne Parks. A haircut turned into an ear cut when Billy Mumberson went to the barber. Things got more peculiar when a bedraggled looking elderly couple barges into his home, claiming to be his grandparents, and takes over running it.A text from his father asks Billy to meet him at the factory, but when Billy and his friend Olivia arrive th [...]

    7. This story is a follow- on from Mike Crowl’s Grimhilda but can be enjoyed without reading the first book. Well-written and full of intrigue and excitement from the start, it’s the story of what happens when Billy finds himself in the clutches of a gang of witches who, unknown to anyone, occupy the factory where his dad works. The witches are after Billy’s blood for some reason. Billy, his friend Olivia, his grandparents (who have only recently escaped from 20 years of forced labour down th [...]
