    1. I won this book in a First Reads giveaway and was surprised, on opening it, to discover it was fiction. But that was a delightful moment because, while I love non-fiction, a well-told story is one of greater joys of life.Maybe that's why Jesus told so many of them.*Spoiler Alert*The book starts with Malachi Marble, an associate pastor whose wife is cheating on him and whose senior pastor is doing dope - for 'medicinal purposes only', as he stresses when the sheriff's department arrives on a dru [...]

    2. For as long as i can remember, Christian fiction, with a few notable exceptions like C.S. Lewis, has been sub-par. This book is even worse than that. It's crap. True, i don't share the same world outlook as the author, but i used to and i like sometimes to go back and challenge current beliefs by looking at my past ones. So i gave this book a chance. I shouldn't have bothered. It's the story of a youth minister who has a crisis of faith after he's fired from the church he works at because he medd [...]

    3. Great book!Jesus at Wal-Mart caught me by surprise. At first I thought, "that's a weird title" but I decided to take a look at the sample. The plot and characters were interesting so I purchased the book. (Great price helped too) it was delightful and well written. As a Christian I am encouraged to share Jesus where I am too. The reason I have this book 4 stars instead of give is because I would have liked a little more time spent Malachi and Annie's failed marriage. Malachi seems to have given [...]

    4. My preference in novels are those that have a Christian message -- either subtle or overt -- but this book was overkill. Much of it read like an evangelistic tract; very preachy and in addition I didn't think it was written all that well. Perhaps I just didn't care for the author's style, but at any rate I won't be reading anything else by him.

    5. An associate pastor declares he is through with God after a run-in with his marijuana smoking head pastor. He flees "Up North" (Michigan) and becomes an overnight stocker at Walmart.

    6. I find beauty in many of the books I read, but this one touched me in a place like no other. It was informative and spritual. This was a good read.

    7. A cute story about a pastor who was accused of wrong doing. But he wasn't the one doing the wrong. He left his wife and left one day with no idea where he was going. He started to not accept God in his life anymore. He found a job at Walmart in another town He lived at a campground in a tent.If you don't care for lots of religious talking you may not enjoy this book , but then again it may open your eyes and your heart to God. Lots of Bible verses too.

    8. Interesting storyWasn't sure what to think at the beginning of the book. The more I read the better it got! If your doubting your faith in God this book has a clear message for you!!

    9. Well, I had a feeling this would be another one of those Christian books which ends with everybody getting converted, but I was intrigued by the title and got interested in the plot. Malachi Marble is a minister, enjoying his job until he catches his pastor smoking marijuana. To protect himself, the pastor fires Malachi, telling the congregation a whole lot of lies about him. Malachi’s marriage is also going badly, so he packs up his stuff and heads to a small town on Lake Michigan to start ov [...]

    10. Loved the title. So far good plot interesting characters familiar local (Michigan). Crisis of faith led young pastor to give up on God. But we know He doesn't give up on us does he? Liking it.Finished it.le preachey but still a good quick read.
